Providing a steady, experienced presence during life's most difficult transitions.

About Katey Hurst

I am a professional guardian and care manager with extensive experience supporting adults with disabilities, seniors, and individuals navigating complex medical and mental health systems. Families and professionals often come to me during periods of crisis, uncertainty, or transition, and my role is to bringclarity, stability, and thoughtful follow-through when situations feel overwhelming.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and am a member of the National Guardianship Association and the Colorado Guardianship Association. Prior to founding Hurst Guardianship & Senior Services, I worked for many years in disability services in roles ranging from direct care to case management, including administering a large residential program for adults with developmental disabilities.

My professional background includes conducting serious incident investigations, developing corrective recommendations, and implementing best practices to ensure safety, dignity, and quality of care. I have in-depth knowledge of local resources that allow seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities to remain in their homes and communities whenever possible, and the experience to identify and secure appropriate facility placement when higher levels of care are necessary.

I am known for being observant, proactive, and steady in challenging situations. I communicate clearly, listen carefully, and am not afraid to advocate when systems fall short. My approach is both practical and compassionate, with a focus on protecting my clients’ well-being while reducing stress and uncertainty for the people who care about them.

My passion is helping people live the best possible life within their circumstances — and helping families feel confident that someone capable, attentive, and grounded is standing beside them. If you or a family member needs support, I would welcome the opportunity to connect.

Philosophy for Care

Every situation is unique, and meaningful care begins with understanding the person at the center of it. My philosophy is grounded in dignity, respect, and the belief that every individual deserves to be heard, supported, and treated as a whole person.

Drawing on years of experience ranging from direct caregiving to administering a large residential program, I approach each case with careful attention to the individual’s goals, values, and circumstances. Upon meeting a client, I conduct an in-depth assessment to understand current health and safety needs, personality, religious beliefs, financial considerations, and other factors that shape day-to-day life.

This information guides the development of a thoughtful, person-centered roadmap. In guardianship cases, I include the individual in decision-making to the fullest extent possible, guided by the principles set forth by the National Guardianship Association and a commitment to least-restrictive, ethically sound care.

I prioritize close communication among all members of a person’s care team. This includes regular check-ins, attending medical appointments when appropriate, and ongoing oversight to ensure caregivers provide quality care and facilities are held accountable.

Above all, I believe every person has a right to dignity, respect, and a steady, helping hand during times of need.
